The Ministry Welcomes You
For old friends following me to a new place, I thought I’d take the time to thank you for joining me. And since the invitation to come along was so unceremoniously throttled by the old platform, I will reintroduce my blog project here.
I chose Ministry of Cabinets for a few reasons. I like that’s its fun and not so pretentious as any of my longstanding favorites. I enjoy the absurdity of its most elevated interpretation; it sounds more arcane than the Bureau of Departments but no less absurd than the Council of Committees.
I like that in smaller speak, whether “ministry” is governmental or religious in nature it is still authority either way, and that cabinets are our most personal nooks, in our kitchens, our bathrooms, beneath our televisions, next to our beds, tucked away behind our closet doors. I think the idea of such a thing is an interesting vantage point from which to look into how we really do regulate our lives and supply our needs. Our ministry of cabinets.
I don’t know what the MoC will fully be yet. I don’t know that I will be able to make many detailed comments about our politics for some time. It would be like staring into the sun so I can describe the burn. But there are so many different things to talk about, like culture, like music, like history and science and art, like absurdity and deep abnormality, and many other facets to American-ness. Another of the things I like about MoC is that it feels like the sort of nesting doll that a body could pull anything from without much surprise.
Thanks again if you’ve made this far. I hope we build a community that can lean on, share with, and learn from each other. I’ll have a couple other announcements to make, including updates about a website where character limits will never be a thing and a podcast that is currently in development, and I’ll make those announcements here.
If you have an account on Bluesky, I am @http://ministryofcabinets.bsky.social/ and we can keep up with each other over there as well.
Welcome! And pardon the dust!
